I am a 19 year old high school dropout, working two jobs. When my boyfriend and I found out that I was pregnant, we were shocked, scared and excited all at the same time. We were homeless, living in our car, and did not know how we would raise a child. The first thing I did was call my mom because my mom had me at 16, and she stayed at a halfway house until I was born. She told me I needed to find someone who would help us keep our baby because that is what she did with me.

After having my pregnancy confirmed at the county health department, they recommended that I contact the pregnancy support center. When my boyfriend and I went to the center everyone was very nice and did not judge us in any way. They interviewed us and explained to us how the center works with young moms and dads by offering free classes called Earn While You Learn classes that teach the parents how to live healthy lives, have healthy babies and be good parents. We had no idea about being parents and we really needed these classes.

There is no way I would have wanted to abort my baby and I was glad the center would help us. The classes have taught us things like how to eat healthy for me and the baby, how to take care of myself and the baby, not to smoke or use drugs while pregnant, how important prenatal care is, and there are so many more lessons we have not taken yet. This is a program that we wish we could stay in forever, as we raise our son, because there is so much to learn.

We also get to use our mommy money we earn from our classes to shop in the centers’ store for all types of baby items like infant carriers, diapers, wipes, baby clothes, maternity clothes, pack and play, formula, bottles, pacifiers and so many more baby things.
